Interest-Free Tax Voucher
10 gold francs, Series I, 20.01.1924
Tax vouchers are among very rare securities, single pieces of 5 gold franc and 10 gold franc slips have survived to our time. The highest sections (25 and 100 gold francs) remain unknown at present and in all likelihood have not survived.
Tax vouchers could be purchased at the Swiss franc exchange rate in effect on a given day - thus providing a hedge against the devaluation of the Polish mark. The issue had no specific redemption or redemption date, and could be exchanged until the outbreak of World War II. According to a statement of the State's domestic issue debts as of April 1, 1939, the total unredeemed amount of tax vouchers was only 5,565 gold francs - i.e. 0.01% of the total issue.
Only Series I was issued, subsequent ones were not redeemed due to the currency reform and the introduction of the zloty in April 1924.
Only 2 pieces known.
Pieces illustrated in Jan Moczydlowski's Catalog.
