Lot description
Grade: VF
Reference: RIC 318

Very rare Octavian denarius, which is another example of Augustus desire to restore republican institutions. At that time, there was a resurgence of individualistic family motifs related to the Roman coin. This type of reverse is modeled on Velia's didrachma, perhaps because the Durmius family was derived from Velia.

Ex. Naville Numismatics, Auction 22, 2016.

From the E.E. Clain-Stefanelli collection.
