Lot description
Grade: F+
Reference: RIC 8a

Rare Pertinax's denarius depicting on the reverse of Ops, the personification of wealth. It is an unusual choice, as Antoninus Pius had used it only once before. In this case, the performance could refer to the events of the day as Ops is holding ears of grain, and one of Pertinax's first priorities was to travel to Ostia to oversee the grain deliveries.

Roman Imperial

Pertinax (193), Denarius 193, Rome mint

Obverse: laureate head right

IMP CAES P HELV PERTIN AVG

Reverse: Ops seated left, holding two grain ears in right hand, resting left on seat of chair

OPI DIVIN TR P COS II

Weight 2,45 g.
