The offered denarius was minted in 81 BC, in which Sulla, after finally defeating the populists commanded by Gaius Marius, seizing Rome and pacifying Italy, assuming the dictator's title for an indefinite period in 82 BC, triumphed after victories in the war with Mithridates VI and introduced a series of political reforms. At that time, the coinage of Postumius Albinus safely commemorated the former victories of the family representatives: the reverse of the offered type resembles the praetor of the year 180 BC, Lucius Postumius Albinus, who defeated the Lusitan and Vaccaei tribes in Spain.
