One of the rarest typological Russian-language copper coins struck at the Warsaw Mint, and among the most desirable issues of the Kingdom of Poland from the reign of Nicholas I.
Variety with dot after date and with letters MW, mit mark of Warsaw mint.
The 1848 issue of the kopecks in silver currency was a short-lived series comprising only three denominations: 3, 2, and 1/2 kopeck. All were struck in relatively small mintages, and production ceased later that same year. The Warsaw Mint did not resume striking Russian-language copper coinage until 1850, making the 1848 issues particularly distinctive.
The 2 kopecks denomination is rarely encountered on the numismatic market. Its brief production period, limited mintage, and historical significance make it one of the most sought-after copper coins of the Kingdom of Poland from the mid-19th century.
