A highly regarded type of the rare gold 1 Rouble of 1756, struck in Moscow during the reign of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna (1741–1762). An issue without a mintmark. Individual varieties of the 1756 issue are classified as rare (R) by Bitkin.
Elizabeth’s reign coincided with the strengthening of the Russian Empire’s position and the continued development of the monetary system initiated under Peter I. Gold roubles belonged to the small, high-value denominations of the period, distinguished by the representative portrait of the Empress and the imperial double-headed eagle.
The details show only minor signs of wear, while the fields remain fresh and lustrous.
An attractive example whose high AU55 grade is fully reflected in the coin’s impressive in-hand appearance.
Obverse: bust of Empress Elizabeth facing right, wearing a small imperial crown, richly decorated dress and mantle.
